Not every seat in a government school goes to general applicants. The admission policy reserves seats for freedom fighters’ children, siblings, twins, special needs students, cantonment area students and a few other groups. Use this free school admission quota checker to see which quotas may apply to your child in the 2027 session.

Quota rules explained
One rule applies to almost every quota: if no eligible student is found, the seats go to general applicants, so no seat stays empty.
Freedom fighter quota (5%)
- For sons and daughters of freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters.
- Attach an attested copy of the certificate with the application and show the original at admission. The freedom fighter certificate is checked carefully.
- If no applicant is found, 3% goes to siblings and 2% to general applicants.
Special needs quota (2%)
- To bring special needs students into mainstream education, with the minimum eligibility still required.
- Proof from the proper authority must be submitted.
- Age relaxation of up to 5 years also applies. Check it with the Age Calculator.
Sibling quota (3%)
- For a child whose brother or sister already studies in that school, or is applying with the child.
- Applies to a maximum of 3 children of a couple.
- If no sibling applies, the seats are opened to twins.
Twin quota (2%)
- For a child whose twin already studies in that school, or is applying with the child.
- Same limit of 3 children of a couple.
- If no twin applies, the seats are opened to siblings.
Ministry of Education staff quota (2%)
- 1% for children of officers and staff working in the Ministry of Education, and 1% for those working in the subordinate offices listed in the policy, so 2% in total.
- A recommendation letter from the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the minimum eligibility are required.
- This quota can be used for admission to any government educational institution. If the number of seats is a fraction, it is rounded up to the next whole number.
Class 6 quota for primary school passers (10%)
- 10% of Class 6 seats are kept for students who passed Class 5 from an independent government primary school.
- It is only for Class 6 admission.
Cantonment area quota (40%)
- In government schools in Dhaka city, 40% of seats are reserved for students living in the cantonment area attached to the school.
- The other 60% is open to everyone.
- The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education decides the cantonment area of each school.

Quota for government employees and teachers
The quota checker covers the most common cases. These rules also exist in the policy:
- Transferred government employees: apply within 12 months of the transfer order. In metropolitan, city corporation and divisional cities the new workplace must be more than 10 km away (by Google Map). An extra 5% seats are kept in each class and section, and students already in a government school get priority.
- Teachers and staff of a government secondary school: extra seats equal to the number of eligible children are kept at the same school. If the school has no suitable section or class, seats are kept at the nearest suitable government school.
- Death of a government employee in service: the child can be admitted to a government school in the area where the family settles.
- Orphan students and relocation after a parent’s death: a student of a government school can join the same class in a government school of the new area.
- Mutual transfer: two students of the same class can swap schools if both schools agree. The guardian applies to the admission committee chair.
