Dhaka Collegiate School at 1 Loyal Street, Sadarghat, was founded on 21 June 1835. It was the first government high school the British set up in Bengal, created to teach English literature and science. Khwaja Abdul Ghani, later the Nawab of Dhaka, was in the first batch of students, and scientists Jagdish Chandra Bose and Meghnad Saha are among its alumni.

Today it is a boys’ school that teaches in Bangla and offers science and commerce courses in a morning shift and a day shift. Its location in Old Dhaka makes it easy to reach by river and road from Sadarghat.

As a government school, Dhaka Collegiate School takes new students under the national admission policy, which uses a digital lottery for Class 1 and a written test for Classes 2 to 9.
